Overview

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Project Manager to lead the delivery of a £10 million decarbonisation scheme in Central London. This role requires an individual with a strong background in mechanical building services, low-carbon technologies, and proven experience managing projects within live operational environments, such as occupied commercial buildings, public sector estates, or healthcare/education facilities.

Role

The Mechanical Project Manager will be responsible for managing the project lifecycle from pre-construction through to handover, ensuring works are delivered safely, on time, to budget, and with minimal disruption to occupants.

  • Lead the planning, execution, and successful delivery of mechanical elements within a large-scale decarbonisation project, including heating system upgrades, CHP removal, ASHP/GSHP integration, and BMS upgrades.

  • Act as the primary point of contact for the client, consultants, supply chain, and internal teams on all mechanical aspects.

  • Manage and coordinate mechanical contractors, suppliers, and site personnel to ensure efficient and safe delivery in a live environment.

  • Oversee project programme, budgets, risk registers, and change management processes.

  • Ensure all works meet technical specifications, quality standards, and compliance with relevant building regulations and decarbonisation frameworks.

  • Review and approve technical submissions, method statements, and RAMS in coordination with the HSEQ team.

  • Monitor site activities, ensuring that safety, cleanliness, and communication protocols are maintained within occupied buildings.

  • Coordinate closely with facilities management teams and building users to manage disruptions and phased works.

  • Support commissioning, testing, and handover processes including documentation and client training.

Education & Qualifications

  • Degree or HND/HNC in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or related field.

  • Minimum of 5+ years’ experience in mechanical project management, including recent delivery of decarbonisation, energy efficiency, or retrofit schemes.

  • Proven experience delivering mechanical works in live environments, with a strong understanding of occupant impact mitigation and stakeholder communication.

  • Strong technical knowledge of mechanical plant upgrades, heat pump systems, energy centres, pipework, and BMS integrations.

  • Familiarity with government or public sector frameworks (e.g. PSDS, RE:FIT) is advantageous.

  • Good knowledge of health, safety, and environmental requirements, especially in occupied buildings.

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

  • Proficient in project management and document control tools (e.g., MS Project, Asta, Aconex, Field View).
